THE CRAFT BEHIND THE DRAPE
The Journey of a Saree
From the first strand of yarn to the final graceful drape, a handwoven saree is shaped by thoughtful design, skilled hands and time-honoured techniques.
Explore the six stages of a traditional handloom journey. The illustrations below represent the craft in general; individual techniques vary by region, textile and artisan.

The Beginning — Selecting Yarn
Cotton and silk yarns are chosen for their texture, strength and drape. Their character helps determine how the finished saree will feel.

Colour Comes Alive
Where the design calls for coloured yarn, carefully prepared threads are dyed and dried before the weaving begins.

Preparing the Threads
Yarn is wound onto bobbins and aligned for the warp and weft. Careful preparation keeps the threads ready for the loom.

The Rhythm of the Loom
On a traditional handloom, warp and weft meet, row after row, as the weaver guides the emerging fabric.

Borders, Motifs & Finishing
Borders and motifs add the saree’s identity. The finished fabric is checked, loose threads are trimmed and the drape is prepared.

A Story Ready to Wear
The saree is folded with care, ready to become part of someone’s celebrations, everyday elegance and memories.
